BIOGRAPHY

Hey! My name is Alenka and I was born in the forest under a big Chtristmas tree.
My mommy was one of the most popular rabbits in the forrest at that time (she was liked by many male rabbits). So, anyway... she really wanted to have 2 bunnies, boy and a girl, but the thing with rabbits is that they usually have loooots of bunnies at one time.Luckily, my mommy got what she wanted... she got pregnant and was ready to give birth to 2 bunnies. However, she was surprised after she gave birth and looked at her babies. The girl was a little white bunny while the boy was a little gray wolf cub.

Many of you might be doubtful that the above actually took place, so here is same story only told in a different way.
I was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1982 along with my darling twin brother Alesha. When my mommy got pregnant,
her doctor asked her if she wants to have a boy or a girl. Her answer was... "I want to have both a boy and a girl".
The doctor smiled at her said that it's very unlikely that she gets what she wants. Guess what? Nine months later,
my mommy surprised doctor with big news. :) Even though we argue from time to time, having a twin brother is fun.
It's almost like having a best friend living in your house.

I spent first 15 years of my life living in Ukraine (it was not very interesting, that's why I won't say much more about it).
After that I came to the United States in search for a better life. I arrived to Brooklyn NY in May of 1997. Upon my arrival I entered Murrow H.S.( very nice school as I learned later). I studied there for 3 years and graduated in June of 2000. You can pretty much guess what happened next. :) I entered Poly. At that time, I felt that Poly was the place for me. I liked it because I heard it was pretty good in my major, I was offered a nice scholarship, and it had lots of guys (I like guys).

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am very much into technology. I am especially fascinated with computer science and engineering as well as mechanical engineering. I really enjoy web development. I love designing web pages and then developing. For design I use Photoshop and my imagination and for development, Cold Fusion, Java Script and a little piece of mind. I am currently serioulsy studying php as well as some flash. I work at Polytechnic web team and I truly enjoy my work. It feels great when I finish with some project and see people use it.

I enjoy reading English and Russian books. My favorite ones are "Crime and Punishment" by Fedor Dostoevskiy and "Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov. I especially like some science fiction books, which open my mind to new ideas. I like thinking about stuff and find explanations to things that are hard to understand. I enjoy watching movies, but only selected ones. I do not like very violent, horror or depressing movies though it does depend on the movie. I enjoy a good comedy, action, sci-fi and romantic movies. My favorite movies are those that give birth to new ideas. My favorite actors are Bruce Willis , Keanu Reeves, Mel Gibson and some others. Besides movies, I enjoy music. I enjoy playing, singing, as well as listening to the music. If you ask me what kind of music I like, I'll say "beautiful music, something that makes me want to cry as well as something that makes me want to dance and sing along".

I am very strong minded. If there is something I believe in strongly, I make sure to get my point across. I can't take unfairness. I am a very shy girl by nature, but there are times when I can get very bold. It all depends on the situation.

I get addicted to things very easily. When I was in my early teens I was very addicted to games. I couldn't wait to come home from school to play. At some point, I felt that I couldn't play anymore, especially the games with lots of blood and killing. I think I overplayed at some point. :) I am actually very glad that I do not play much anymore because that takes away a lot of time, which could be used for other things. I am also addicted to computer... actually, the internet. I do not know what it is about the internet that fascinates me. Sometimes I just go there without really knowing why and spend lots of hours doing "something". I also chat a lot. Before I was very addicted to AIM. Now I am less addicted, but I still do chat, because communication is important. I do not like talking on the phone and there are many people that I do not see often, so chatting seems like a good way of keeping in touch.

My latest addiction is Polytalk. Let me tell you... it was love from the first sight. I remember how I came there for the first time and there were only 5 users. I watched it grow and develop into a wonderful site that it is now. No, it's not just another forum site. It's a wonderful community. Personally, I wouldn't enjoy spending time at any other forum. There is "something" about Polytalk that makes me feel like I am at home. Thanks to Polytalk and our beloved student, I got to know so many people. If not for Polytalk, I would miss out on so much. I think it's a great site (no matter what some might think) and there will never be any other site that will come close. Of course, there wouldn't be anything if not for the Poly students. They joke, they fight, they tell interesting things to each, share valuable information, help each other out with homework, etc. Many complain about not having any social life in Poly. Polytalk is a major part of "social life" for many Polytalkers. What could be more social than a forum like that? I simply love it and I will work hard to help the
student in any way I can. Please help to keep the forum nice and clean. Thank you for your attention. I wish everyone the best of luck in graduating from Poly and finding great jobs.

Well, it's time for me to hop away. My wolf brother is calling me (he got some carrots and cabbage from the garden). Happy Polytalking!

BIOGRAPHY (updated: 7/11/05)

I'm finally able to update this thing. So, um, since the last "about page" spew, I've aged. I still moderate. I code web stuff for a living (for now). I'm in my senior year (finally). And, from the heights of admins that are mentioned and not mentioned yet (i.e. Kelly, Altus and Mathgeek), I'm the second shortest admin. Yes, this makes me sad.

Oh well.

BIOGRAPHY

MMN Maniac is one of the most resolute individuals featured on this site. He has virtually overcome any obstacle he has ever faced. A current senior in college, his scholastic accomplishments include getting a full scholarship and maintaining a 3.9+ GPA, while working an average of 20+ hours per week at a prominent dental company.

Born in 1981 in Hong Kong, China, Maniac is truly a product of two different cultures. He lived there until 9, when his parents sent him to America, in fear of similiar attacks by the People's Army of China. Many thought the Tienamien Masscare was a preview of events to come when China was to take back Hong Kong in 1997.

Once he arrived, he was virtually forced to work daily at his relatives' Chinese Take-Out as compensation for his own food, shelter and clothing. Even though the times were depressing, he vowed to work hard, save up, and some day, go to college so he would never have to work like a slave again.

And that, he did. By 1999, he had graduated Farmingdale High School and saved up enough to go to college. Luckily, because of his high grades, he was offered a full scholarship to Polytechnic University. Accepting the offer, he took the money he had saved working the last ten years and bought his first car - a brand new '99 Honda Civic EX sedan.

Furthermore, his parents had emigrated to America that year and bought a house on Long Island. His dreams were finally coming true. Today, Maniac still works hard to further that dream. He hopes to graduate Summa Cum Laude, find a good job, and have his own house by age 30. Maniac's dedication in his work are matched only by his loyalty to friends and family, and by the variety of his recreational activities. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with friends and family, work on his website, and watch movies.

BIOGRAPHY

This feels like a high school essay assignment but I liked those so I should start by saying one of my hobbies is writing humourous (sounds fungish, don't it?) stories. I wasn't born in the USA, but that's not surprising because neither were the other 99% of the population living in NYC so...Polytalk is great! woot, I support it 100% but feel sad that it's no longer coded in ASP. But this is Biography so I'll add that for a couple of years after junior high I hanged out at some high school...Bronx Science then came to Poly...that's about it, thank you :)
